Materials Handling – It’s in the bag

Materials Handling – It’s in the bag

When a bulk vessel arrives in port it may – in the case of liquids – transfer its cargo direct to storage tanks.

When it comes to free flowing solids – grains, rice, fertiliser etc, it is now also as simple to transfer those products to their own storage containers. As time is money, and there is a need to transfer the cargo quickly and efficiently from the hold of the ship to land based storage or transport.

Our client had a need to break down bulk deliveries into manageable sized bags for distribution. Gapuma were asked to source machinery to provide cost effective bagging solutions that could be easily moved between quays, with a variable sack size. Gapuma supplied several machines to the client that are now in use in ports across West Africa, machines that can transfer bulk cargo into 25kg to 50kg bags.

This now means with the appropriate teams, 5,000 metric tonnes of product can be unloaded, immediately bagged and moved in one day. Our client is now one of the leading providers of mobile bagging services in the West Africa region, proving its ‘in the bag’!
